BLACK, I love you. If I could wear you head to toe daily I would. You're the ultimate way to look mysterious and perfectly understated. OH, AND you magically cover up imperfections all at the same time!! Amazing.

A find worth mentioning...

I found this little slice of heaven at a great vintage boutique called Hunt&Gather. This piece screamed BULKY PURPLE OVER TOP on the hanger but after I put it on it totally changed its tune. I loved that it was a no-fuss bib, you just throw it over your shoulder and velcro the the ends together. The overall lay of the fringe and the suede was awesome. No bulk whatsoever, and it actually gave my shoulders a nice silhouette. Surprisingly, it looks good over almost anything. On New Years I wore it over a black stretchy dress and totally had a Daniel Boone moment...BB gun included.

Moral: don't judge a bib by its hanger appeal or lack there of...try the darn thing on! I'm sure there are more of these waiting to be found at your local thrift or vintage store...maybe even on ebay?

Unique inspiration. First impression was good. It's always easy to get my attention when a boyish look is being well executed by a girl. I will say that a cowboy hat outside of it's usual arena would normally read inauthentic and slightly obnoxious to me but this case was different. She pulled it off and made her own. Her subtle brooch perfectly united the look and gave a cute shout out to the bolo tie.

Off hand this shirt might read faded and dated BUT (bear with me) its actually awesome, and it should take the place of the over-worn plaid button ups. The native american print is sick. Dapper dapper tapper tapper. Isn't a thrill to see a boy dress so well? Each piece was rich in it's own right and when put together a lovely swagger was achieved. From the hat placement, the bow tie, and the lean pea coat I admired each detail. Even his socks came with a purpose, if you look close they are red and dying to be seen.

All hail Jenny Lewis, la princesa de indie-folkaaa. (For those who don't know) This cute person is a singer-song writer credited with putting Silverlake and Echo Park on the map (the long & short). Also pictured, and just as important, Mr. Johnathan Rice (recording artist, actor, and Lewis's bf).

Lets have a belt moment. This meeting alone revived my love for waist belts. Point #1 Yes, I know waist belts are nothing new. #2 Waist belts are NOT one and the same. #3 Thanks to purple pleather and 6 inch patent leather belts I have had a serious love hate relationship with them. BUT those days are gone and I am now on a daily quest for fun vintage waist belts. The louder the design the better. Her belt played a perfect center piece to her beautiful pattern-clashing outfit. Dang those shoes are cute.

Dresses are are the greatest invention EVER. I mean really, who has time to decide what pants go with whatever blouse?? Just throw on a dress and focus on the bag&shoes.

Take a tip from the lovely above. Typically, an 80's church dress will look absolutely frightening on a hanger...dated, tacky, ug. BUT with the right stuff (hair,shoes,bag) the dress can take on a whole new life. That duffel and those ankle boots have my heart.

..and he looks the part doesn't he? Firstly, I MUST give recognition to his polyester (powder blue) vest AND his guts to wear it! TOO-Shayyyy my friend, you pulled it off. Secondly, props on making the bro-bag/briefcase work. It looks classic in black leather... plus its completely functional. I'm sure its filled with many pencils and writer things.

I want to put Nair in her conditioner and steal her hair!!! So perfectly messed. The high waisted satin skirt looks clean and streamline over the cotton tank of the same color. This minimalist approach reads lovely and even lovelier when colorful heels are thrown in. purrrrrrdy meow meow:)

From the top of his felt hat to the bottom of his moccasins I enjoyed it. This Frenchmen is very much inspired by the 60's 70's. It's risky to dress straight out of an era cause it can look "too much" but this guy oozes the vibe so the outfit is fitting. The use of swim wear as street wear is genius. When it comes to boardies/trunks I say the funkier the print the better. Lucky for you they aren't hard to find, I'm seeing 80's inspired trunks everywhere from skate shops to charity stores. Hmmm I think it's safe to say moooostache is the new black.

Beautiful cape. Who knew sweatshirt fabric could drape so well. I love the suspenders with the high waisted skirt.
